So I’m in the middle of moving from Alaska to Spain for the air force and I’m taking some leave in California with family. We’ve been borrowing my mother-in-law’s HondaFit and I gotta say, damn I like it!
It’s a 2015 Honda Fit with the CVT and navigation but what really got me happy was taking it all over the back roads that are unpaved. It climbs up hills no problem and if it was mine and not my wife’s moms car, it would have been sideways on some of those turns as well!
Here’s me with he car. On then freeways it can get between 45 and 55 mpg (90+ if you’re going downhill) and it apparently will shut off cylinders when it goes above 60mph. But today, my wife’s family and mine went fishing (well, at least we tried to) and on the way back, we took a dirt road home that would have been fun in a Jeep. That road probably doesn’t see many FWD vehicles. We took it a little slow being that it wasn’t mine but still had fun anyways!
We stopped at this overlook right before the end of the dirt road and took some pictures. I figured you guys mig like a story about a car going somewhere that it wasn’t designed for. I know I love those stories!
P.S.: Towels in the rear windows work way better than those suction cup window blinds things!

Are you going to be buying a car while in Spain?

Better watch it...this comes dangerously close to admitting you like CVTs. You don’t want to know what the collective mob did to the last guy who said something that wasn’t about how much he liked the manual , and he was a bloody editor!

I love the way the Fit drives. I can’t live with the infotainment system though.

Hell yea I am. I’m tn between something that’s 25 years old or older so I can bring it back with me or something new to screw around with for a couple years.

Ha ha now personally, I would prefer the manual. The wife however hasn’t quite learned the manual so CVT would be the compromise for us.

I’ve only been using the Fit for a few days now and haven’t really touched the infotainment system. It looks nice though. It’s very aesthetically pleasing. But that’s about all I’ve done with it. For maps, I’m still using Waze on my phone.

Haha, good luck finding something!
If you don’t mind me asking, what part of Spain will you be in?
There’s not that many vintage cars out there from what I’ve seen in the Costa Del Sol, most older Mercedes cars have already been taken to Africa by now haha.

Ha ha yea. Most of the cars I’ve seen on their Craigslist are way overpriced and modded to hell and back. I’ll be stationed at Morón Air Base just outside of Sevilla and about an hour and a half east of Rota Naval Station.

SEAT Leon Cupra. Just register it as a GTI when you return bro. Problem solved, you’re welcome. #importlyfe

Ah, sounds nice!
Spain is a great country, watch out for horrible drivers and it’s a blast. There’s some great driving roads out that way also.

Ha ha would that even work? They are mechanically pretty much the same!

That’s what I’ve been hearing. One thing indefinitely want to do is a track day at Catalunya!

Yes! Lots of pictures of that when it happens please.

Oh...not only will there be pictures, but I’ll have dashcam video(s) to post as well!

Work, maybe. Legal, nope. They’re supposed to be great cars though, and fairly cheap used.
